About this spot

A central hub for Hachimantai sightseeing, located at the Mirikaeeshi Pass at approximately 1,540m elevation, near the Iwate-Akita prefectural border. The second-floor restaurant serves the signature Genta Curry and other menu items using local ingredients, all enjoyed through large windows overlooking sweeping mountain panoramas. The mountain-top trail beginning here leads past the mystical Kagami Pond and Megane Pond to the summit of Mount Hachimantai at 1,613m, with possible extensions to the Gama Pond and Hachiman Pond viewpoints—a complete loop takes around an hour and a half. With paved sections and wooden walkways, you can enjoy the mountain-walking experience even in light drive clothing. Below stretches an endless sea of trees, with Mount Iwate rising majestically in the distance—a heavenly realm where every view is picture-perfect.

Tips

From the Visitor Center, it's approximately 30-40 minutes to the summit parking area via the Aspite Line. The prefectural parking lot in front of the rest house is paid (approximately 500 yen for regular vehicles). Even in summer, the summit is often chilly, so don't forget a jacket. The Aspite Line is closed at night and in winter, so check traffic information beforehand.

Best time to visit

Approximately 2 hours (lunch + trail walk). Best in mid-morning to afternoon when the air is clear and visibility excellent
