Located at the northernmost point of the Oga Peninsula, this scenic area features a gentle, grass-covered plateau that drops toward the Sea of Japan. The striking contrast of green grassland, blue sea and sky, and the distinctive black-and-white striped Nyudo Cape Lighthouse represents Oga tourism at its finest—every angle is photogenic. The lighthouse has been selected as one of "Japan's 50 Best Lighthouses" and, during visiting periods, you can climb to the top for panoramic views of the Sea of Japan. The spacious grass area is perfect for children to run freely, making it an ideal spot for families. The cape features several monuments marking the 40th parallel north, offering fun opportunities for commemorative photos while contemplating the planet's scale. The surrounding area has restaurants serving seafood bowls and coastal cuisine, plus small shops for refreshments during your walk.

Tips

About 15 minutes by car from Oga Aquarium GAO along the coastal road, with free parking. Sea winds are often strong, so bring a light jacket. The lighthouse is open to visitors only during specific seasons and hours, so check on-site for current access. Some areas at the cape's tip lack railings, so keep a close eye on children.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 15 minutes required. Late afternoon visits offer striking light, with the western sun making the sea shimmer beautifully for photos.
