This impressive stone Jizo Bodhisattva statue, standing 2.34 meters tall, is located just beside Zao Ropeway's Jizo Summit Station. According to tradition, it was constructed over approximately 37 years during the Anei era of the Edo period, and has since watched over visitors to Zao as the "Guardian of Misfortune." In winter, the statue becomes completely buried in snow with only its head visible—a iconic winter sight at Zao. During the green season, a vast highland panorama spreads before you, creating the surreal feeling of praying above the clouds. It's accessible with just a short walk from the station, making it easy even for families with small children to visit. After paying respects, enjoy the viewing spots near the station for additional scenic appreciation.
