Hilltop Park Overlooking the City and Mount Gassan: Relaxing Three-Generation Break on Grassy Grounds
About this spot
A cherished public park spreading across the Nagaoka Mountain area overlooking Sagae's cityscape. Known as a prime azalea viewing spot called "Azalea Garden," the park features multiple attractions including cherry blossom plaza and offers leisurely walks among seasonally changing flowers and greenery. The well-positioned hilltop provides excellent views of Sagae's streets and, on clear days, the mountain ridges of Mount Gassan (月山) and Mount Hayama (葉山)—with an expansive sense of openness. Spacious grassy areas are perfect for children to roam freely, while scattered benches and gazebos allow grandparents to relax and enjoy the scenery while watching their grandchildren play. After shopping and sightseeing, this spot offers the ideal afternoon rest at each family member's own pace.
Tips
About 15 minutes by car from Jionji Terrace; you can drive near the park with free parking. Located on a hilltop with good air flow, making it pleasant even in summer, though a sun hat is recommended. The grounds include a playground for children, so extra clothes and towels are useful. Restrooms and gazebos are available.
