At a renowned shop for disk gyoza, Fukushima's specialty, enjoy piping-hot gyoza tightly arranged in a circle in an iron pan

About this spot

An established restaurant that is indispensable when discussing Fukushima's specialty 'disk gyoza,' with its main branch in Iizaka Onsen. Disk gyoza is a unique Fukushima style where gyoza are tightly arranged in a circle in an iron pan and baked, then the entire pan is flipped upside down onto a plate. The skin is crispy and fragrant, the filling is vegetable-rich and light, and despite the impressive volume, a couple will find the disk disappearing quickly before they realize it. After a full day of walking through the hot spring town, stepping through the curtain in the early evening when the shop opens and gathering around a piping-hot disk of gyoza is the climax of this course. It's a quintessential Iizaka way to experience both hot spring atmosphere and local cuisine in one moment.

Tips

Just a 2-minute walk from Iizaka Onsen Station, right in front of the station. This popular restaurant opens in the evening, and lines often form before opening, so arriving at the shop early is recommended. Some days close after selling out, so allow extra time. Preparing cash for payment is a safe bet.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1 hour. Early evening, right after opening, is your best chance. Enjoy the piping-hot disk while it's fresh from the pan.
