Inside, fresh Joban-mono fish landed by the Soma-Futaba Fisheries Cooperative are lined up, and the food court lets you enjoy dishes unique to this port town, such as seafood rice bowls and fisherman's dishes, on the spot. The souvenir selection is also plentiful, including Soma's specialty green laver, dried fish, and local vegetables and processed goods, and the lively atmosphere, bustling with both locals and tourists, is part of its charm. Opened as a symbol of recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake, this facility serves as a hub sending out the energy of Soma's coast. Matsukawaura's calm water surface spreads out right in front, making it a perfect spot to gaze at the sea for a moment after eating. Sitting at the midpoint of the drive, this reliable spot will fill both your stomach and your souvenir bag.

Tips

About 15 minutes by car from central Soma, with ample free parking. The food court gets crowded around lunchtime, so if you want to be sure of a seat, aim for right after opening or after 1pm. If buying fresh fish, an insulated bag or ice pack is reassuring for the trip home.
