An old-fashioned dining hall at the temple path entrance, famous for its specialty horse chestnut mochi made from nuts harvested in the mountains. A subtle bitter note blends with the sweetness of the mochi, seeping warmly into your body heated from the climb. Simple platters of wild vegetables and other mountain delicacies are treasures of mountain villages. Beyond the window stretches the deep green of Mitoku Mountain, and as you share the sense of accomplishment from reaching Nageire-do, you can savor a leisurely lunch. Taking home horse chestnut mochi as a souvenir is a cherished tradition at the temple gate.

Tips

After noon, when climbers return, seating fills quickly. Arriving before noon ensures a table. The famous mochi is popular as a souvenir and may sell out, so securing it when you dine is wise.
