About this spot

A tourism hub located at the center of the Shirakabe Dozo-gumi, housed in a converted earthen storehouse that once served as a soy sauce fermentation warehouse. Upon entering the building, you'll encounter a soaring space with thick beams crossing overhead, allowing you to experience the impressive scale of the warehouse itself. The first floor displays an array of local crafts, folk art, renowned sweets, seafood, and other regional specialties. The second floor is a gallery space where you can view the timber framework up close. Affiliated branch buildings are scattered nearby, offering distinctive shopping experiences in each warehouse—pottery, toys, cafes, and more. It's an ideal spot for selecting souvenirs while appreciating the warehouse architecture, and a convenient rest stop during your town walk.

Tips

Entry to the building is free; budget costs mainly for souvenir purchases. The branch buildings (No. 2 onwards) are clustered within a few minutes' walk, making it fun to visit multiple warehouses. The staircase to the second floor is steep, as befits a warehouse, so watch your footing.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1 hour required. Early morning, shortly after opening, allows for relaxed shopping and time to explore the branch buildings nearby.
