A Romantic Beach Walk Along White Sands and Views of Oki Island
About this spot
This arc of white sandy beach stretches directly in front of Hakuto Shrine and serves as the mythological setting for the 'White Rabbit of Inaba' tale. The striking contrast between the white sand and blue Sea of Japan is breathtaking, while Oki Island (淤岐ノ島) floats offshore—the very island the white rabbit is said to have crossed. The area known as Ketano-mae (気多ノ前), a promontory on the western side of the beach, is where the injured white rabbit was saved by Ōkuninushi. Recognized as a sacred spot for lovers, a walk here makes the mythological scenery feel wonderfully real and romantic. Whether you wade barefoot at the water's edge or sit on the sand gazing at the horizon, time seems to drift away as you create your own cherished moments.
Tips
Wear sneakers rather than heels since you'll be walking on sand. Bring a light layer if it's windy. An underground passage beneath the national highway leads from the Michi-no-Eki parking lot down to the beach.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1.5 hours. The morning sun reflects beautifully off the sea, making the white sand glow even brighter.
