Sunset Stroll at Hawai Beach, the 'Hawaii of Japan,' with Its White Sandy Shore

About this spot

A beach boasting white sand and gentle, shallow waters in the Hagi district of Yurihama Town (湯梨浜町), known as 'Japan's Hawaii.' The crescent-shaped sandy shore is pleasant simply to walk along, and shell hunting and sand drawing keep children entertained even outside swimming season. The name draws from the former Hagi Town, and it's popular as a photo spot evoking Hawaiian atmosphere. Facing the Japan Sea (日本海), the sunset here is exceptional—as the sun sinks toward the horizon, the glow paints the beach and sky in shades of orange and crimson, a sight worthy of concluding a day spent touring lakes and gardens.

Tips

If playing on the beach, bring a change of clothes and towels for children. Evening sea breezes may arise, so a light layer is reassuring. The parking lot is close to the beach; you can take a stroller to the edge of the sand.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. Plan your visit around sunset time to encounter the spectacular moment when the beach glows crimson.
