An Ancient Stone Lighthouse and Panoramic Views of the Sea of Japan
About this spot
A stone lighthouse standing on the tip of Jizogasaki Promontory at the easternmost end of the Shimane Peninsula, and among the oldest stone lighthouses in the Sanin region. The contrast between the white stone-built lighthouse and blue sea is striking, and it's known as a famous lighthouse selected for "100 Lighthouses of the World." Below lies the rugged sea cliffs and the Sea of Japan, where clear days offer views extending to the distant silhouettes of the Oki Islands. The former lighthouse keeper's residence has been reborn as a café where you can rest while gazing at the horizon through glass. As the day's final complement, watching the glittering sea lit by the angling sun with your companion is this course's greatest reward.
Tips
A few minutes' walk via the nature trail leads from the parking area to the lighthouse. The promontory tends to be windy, so bring a light jacket. The café's sea-facing seats are popular, so visit with extra time to spare.

Approximately 2 hours. Late afternoon light sets the sea aglow—the perfect way to close your day.
