From the formal entrance with its entrance platform, guest rooms, the chief resident's quarters, to the kitchen, every space reflects the simple yet functional dwellings suited to their social rank, allowing visitors to feel the lived experience of Edo-period samurai life. Beyond the longhouse gate lies a well-maintained garden, and the tatami-matted rooms viewed from the veranda exude a refined atmosphere. While understated, this residence—viewed in context with the moat seen from the boat, the castle tower climbed, and the streets walked—provides the complete picture of Matsue's castle town and makes a fitting conclusion to the course.
Tips
The residence is viewed from corridors looking into tatami rooms, and there are level changes; watch your step carefully. If you still have your all-day Horikawa Pleasure Boat pass, you can return by boat from the nearby Fureai Plaza immediately after visiting. Closing hours vary by season; confirm with the reception desk.

Approximately 45 minutes duration. In the evening, soft western light creates beautiful shadows in the garden, and the garden viewed from the sitting room is particularly lovely.
