Spectacular Views: Hishio Port and Hishio Islands Spread Below from Tatekoshi-yama Summit
About this spot
A park developed across the summit area of Tatekoshi-yama, which towers behind Hishio Port. True to its name, it's Hishio's finest viewing spot overlooking the port. Below spreads Hishio Port where fishing boats come and go, the houses of the port town, and beyond them the Hishio Islands—a collection of large and small islands including Kakukui Island and Atama Island. You can also look down upon the Bizen Hishio Great Bridge spanning the sea between the main island and the islands. On clear days, you can see as far as the direction of Shodoshima Island, and this is an ideal spot to experience the multi-island beauty of the Seto Inland Sea. In striking contrast to the market's bustle, from the quiet mountaintop where only wave sounds and bird calls echo, you can enjoy a pleasant digestive walk and rest between your food adventures.
Tips
The ascent from the base takes a sloped walking trail, so wear comfortable shoes. The viewing plaza has little shade, so on sunny days bring a hat and water. On windy days, bring a light jacket for assurance.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour required, including ascent and descent. In the clear morning air, even distant islands appear sharp and distinct.
