Experience a Train Journey with a Retro Wooden Yoshigawara Station Building and Preserved Railcars

About this spot

A park that preserves the memory of the Sakuhara Mineral Mine, once called the best in the Orient for producing iron sulfide ore, and the Katakami Railway that transported the ore along the Yoshii River. The former Yoshigawara Station building remains in its original retro wooden form on the park grounds, and railcars and freight cars that once served on the Katakami Railway are carefully preserved on the platform. The Mineral Museum exhibits replicas of mining tunnels and a detailed diorama of the mining town, allowing visitors to experience life in the town that prospered with the mines. On certain days, the preservation society conducts exhibition runs of the vehicles, and encountering these moving retro trains is a stroke of luck. Sitting on a bench in the station house envelops you in a timeless, nostalgic atmosphere.

Tips

Parking and park exploration are free; admission is required only for the Mineral Museum. Check in advance with Misaki Town's tourism information for exhibition run dates. Gravel paths surround the platform area, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1.5 hours required. Afternoon sunlight at an angle makes the wooden station building and preserved vehicles even more evocative and nostalgic
