Miyajima Omotesando Arcade (宮島表参道商店街)

Flow of the course

About this spot

The main street connecting the ferry terminal and Itsukushima Shrine, the prime avenue of Miyajima sightseeing. Along this approximately 350-meter arcade, shops are lined up offering the regional specialties of Hiroshima and Miyajima: anago-meshi restaurants, freshly baked maple-leaf buns, and fragrant grilled oysters. For lunch, be sure to enjoy the signature anago-meshi—fluffy conger eel roasted slowly and carefully over rice, a must-try when visiting Miyajima. After eating, compare maple-leaf buns or browse craft shops featuring Miyajima wooden rice paddles and more. It's an enjoyable walk as deer occasionally poke their faces out from shop fronts.

Tips

Popular anago-meshi shops during lunch hours will surely have lines. Timing it slightly off-peak makes entry easier. When eating food from the arcade, it's courteous to eat in the space in front of the shop where purchased. Miyajima's deer cleverly target food and paper bags, so keep bag openings firmly closed.

Best time to visit

Approximately 2 hours 30 minutes required. After lunch rush, lines settle down and shops are easier to enter.
