Walk the Sandy Path That Emerges from the Sea at Low Tide to the Small Island
About this spot
A small island floating right in front of Michi no Eki Southern Seto Towa, where a sandy path (tombolo) emerges from the sea just before and after low tide, allowing you to walk across. As the tide recedes and the path gradually reveals itself, it's as if the sea is opening up—an adventure in itself when traveling with children. Known as a romantic spot selected as a 'Sacred Site for Lovers,' the shallow waters on both sides of the sandy path are home to small crabs and shells. The view of Suo-Oshima from the island is also spectacular.
Tips
The path is only accessible for a few hours around low tide. Be sure to check the tide schedule for the day and allow time to return before the tide rises. Parts of the sandy path may be wet, so waterproof shoes or sandals are recommended.
Best time to visit
Approximately 45 minutes. Best visited around low tide time. Just a short walk from the rest area, so coordinate your visit with the tide.
