A gorge cruise where you can experience the Ōboke Gorge—carved by the rapids of the Yoshii River over countless epochs—intimately from the water's surface. Argillite rock cliffs resembling marble sculptures tower dramatically on both sides, and unusual rock formations like the Lion Rock, which resembles a lion's figure, appear one after another. On this round-trip approximately 30-minute voyage, the boatman guides you through the gorge's highlights and geological stories with abundant humor, which is one of the pleasures of the experience. The contrast between the crystal-clear emerald-green flow and the rugged rock cliffs presents a sense of grandeur entirely different from viewing from an observation deck—a fitting experience to open a day in a hidden gem landscape.

Tips

To reach the boarding area, take an elevator or ramp from the restaurant-equipped building down to the riverbank. No reservations are needed; boats operate continuously. However, service may be suspended due to water level rise after heavy rain, so it's reassuring to check the operational status on the day. Early morning departures are relatively uncrowded, and parking is free.

Best time to visit

Approximately 30 minutes required. In the morning, the water surface is calm, and the emerald-green color of the river is most beautiful as it glistens in the light.
