It depicts the teacher and twelve children from Eisaku Tsuboi's novel "Twenty-Four Eyes" (二十四の瞳), set on Shodoshima Island, and the lively expressions of the children walking around the teacher are particularly striking. Beyond the statue stretches the Seto Inland Sea, and viewing it alongside ferry arrivals and departures gives you a genuine sense of arrival on the island.
