A 103-meter sky walk: the Kanmon Strait in full panorama

About this spot

On the top floor of a high-rise towering over Mojiko's waterfront, 103 meters above ground, sits this observation room. Designed by renowned architect Kisho Kurokawa, floor-to-ceiling glass windows frame a sweeping panorama: the Kanmon Strait and Bridge, the brick-red Mojiko Retro district, and Shimonoseki's cityscape across the water. Watching large and small ships navigate the strait beneath you drives home this place's importance as a maritime crossroads. Settle at a window-side counter, a drink in hand, gazing at the shimmering strait in the evening light. Perfect closure to your Taisho romance walk.

Tips

An elevator whisks you to the 31st floor in seconds. Glass reflections can blur photos—pressing your lens close to the window captures clearer shots. Being indoors, it's comfortable on windy or hot days. If time permits, lingering for night views after sunset is also popular.

Best time to visit

Takes about 60 minutes. Late afternoon when western sun illuminates the strait is spectacular.
