Morning Circular Walk Around the Pond with Waterfowl
About this spot
One of Japan's most representative waterside parks, developed by making use of Fukuoka Castle's outer moat. The park is dominated by an expansive pond that feels far removed from the city center, surrounded by a circular walking path of approximately 2km. In the center of the pond, a series of islands connected by bridges offer a pleasant walking route with the comfort of pine greenery and a breeze crossing the water's surface. The path is conveniently divided into separate lanes for walking and jogging, and boat houses and cafés dot the pond's edge. A leisurely morning walk around the pond, observing waterfowl in the crisp morning air, will set a wonderful tone for your day in Fukuoka.
Tips
The park is conveniently accessible, just moments from Ohori Park Station (大濠公園駅) on the subway Airport Line. Some sections of the walking path offer little shade from the sun, so bringing a hat and water is recommended. If time permits, you can also enjoy boating or café breaks by the pond, but for this course, it's recommended to dedicate your time to the one-loop walk to align with museum opening hours.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour 15 minutes. The early morning, when the air is crisp, is the most pleasant time for a walk around the pond.
