A Spectacular Geyser Erupting Every 30 to 40 Minutes

About this spot

This hell features a geyser that erupts dramatically with boiling water and steam every 30 to 40 minutes and is designated as a National Scenic Area. The natural show created by geothermal water periodically building pressure and erupting continues for several minutes, with white columns of water gushing from rock crevices—a truly spectacular sight. The force is naturally so powerful that a stone roof was constructed to limit its height. Spending time in the observation area wondering "Is it happening soon?" is part of the unique charm of this hell. It's a fitting grand finale to cap off your day of hell-hopping.

Tips

Ask the staff at the ticket office for the approximate time of the next eruption so you can secure a good viewing spot efficiently. Fine mist may spray during the eruption, so keep your camera at a distance to be safe. This hell adjoins Chi no Ike Jigoku, making them convenient to visit consecutively.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 50 minutes. Confirm the next eruption time at the ticket office upon arrival so you can time your visit with the geyser cycle.
