Walruses and Dolphins Steal the Show at a Seaside Interactive Aquarium
About this spot
An interactive aquarium facing Beppu Bay with the theme of "making friends with animals." Upon entering, you'll be greeted by the large circulating tank where fish from the Bungo Channel swim leisurely. The humorous walrus performance and the dynamic dolphin jumps against the blue sky are signature programs that captivate both children and adults. The facility features touch pools where you can directly touch marine creatures and an outdoor play beach area called "Asobi-beach" (あそびーち), allowing you to experience the sea with all five senses. The in-house café overlooking the sea serves light meals, so you can spend a full morning playing and enjoy lunch without leaving the building.
Tips
Check the performance schedule upon arrival and plan your route in reverse. Arriving right after opening on weekends and holidays tends to be less crowded. If playing at the touch pools or beach area, bring a change of clothes and towels for the children. Also check for combo discount tickets with Takasaki Mountain Nature Zoo at the entrance.
Best time to visit
Approximately 3.5 hours. Arriving right after opening, watching the performances, and having an early lunch at the café is most comfortable.
