A Panoramic View of the Castle Town from a Small Keep Overlooking the Sea

About this spot

A small castle standing on a peninsula jutting into Morie Bay, offering views of the calm waters and Kitsuki's castle town below from its keep. From the observation space in the keep, you can see the entire layout of the 'sandwich-type castle town'—samurai residences on two high plateaus north and south, with the merchant quarter nestled in the valley between them. The castle museum displays armor, swords, and artifacts connected to Kitsuki's history, perfect for preparing yourself before exploring the castle town. The entire castle grounds have been developed as a park with pleasant pathways dotted with stone monuments, and this is the perfect starting point to build anticipation for the town walk that lies ahead.

Tips

Wear comfortable walking shoes, as the path from the parking area to the keep is an easy uphill slope. Take time at the viewing space in the keep to mentally map out the castle town's topography—it will make your subsequent slope walk far more enjoyable. Kitsuki often offers combined tickets for its tourist facilities; check at the ticket window if you plan to visit multiple locations.

Best time to visit

Approximately 50 minutes required. The morning when the air is clear offers the finest views of the bay and castle town.
