At 513 meters elevation, this viewpoint hill is said to be where mythical deities paused during their journey across Kyushu to survey the land. Below spread the Takachiho Basin woven with rice terraces and homes; to the west, the Aso Five Peaks lie like a reclining Buddha statue; to the south, the peaks of the Sobo mountain range—a complete panorama of mountainous beauty surrounds you. From autumn through early winter, on calm, cold early mornings, sea-of-clouds often blankets the basin in mystical splendor. At dusk, western sun gently tints the mountain ridges, creating quiet time perfect for day's end. After exploring gorge, shrine, and railway bridge throughout the mythical land, pause on this hilltop to reflect on the day's journey.
Tips
The viewpoint is just a short walk from the parking lot, but bring a light jacket as hilltop winds can be cool. To catch the sea-of-clouds effect, plan a separate early morning visit. Darkness descends quickly once the sun sets, so descend the mountain path while daylight remains.

Approximately 1 hour. Late afternoon when angled light paints the Aso Five Peaks and basin is peak scenic time.
