Emerald Seas from the Fortunate Cape and Salt Factory Tour

About this spot

A scenic cape on a bluff of Miyagi Island (宮城島), within the grounds of the Nuchimāsu (ぬちまーす) salt factory. "Kahō" means "fortune" in Okinawan; "banta" means "cliff." True to its name, from atop the cliff spreads a gradient of white sandy beach and emerald green sea that draws gasps of delight. Within the grounds, a free guided tour reveals how Nuchimāsu—mineral-rich, snow-fine salt—is produced. A café and gift shop are also on-site. Sacred sites like the Dragon Deity Wind Path dot the area, letting you combine stunning vistas with salt tourism—a fitting finale to your journey.

Tips

A factory tour and cape exploration together fly by in an hour. On windy days, secure your hat from the clifftop breezes. The gift shop's varied salts are popular souvenirs; an eco-bag is handy.

Best time to visit

Plan about 1 hour 30 minutes. Afternoon light makes the sea's blue most vivid and the cape's views most brilliant.
