Sailing Ship Nippon Maru

Flow of the course

About this spot

The Nippon Maru, a training sailing ship called the "Swan of the Pacific," is a nationally designated Important Cultural Property preserved in its original active-duty form in dry dock. During the ship tour, you can walk through the officers' quarters, engine room, and trainee living quarters, experiencing life aboard a large sailing ship. The adjacent Yokohama Port Museum introduces the history and workings of Yokohama Port through models and videos. With building groups in the background, the row of standing masts is one of Minatomirai's representative landscapes and perfect for commemorative photos.

Tips

The ship interior has many stairs and steps, so wear comfortable shoes. A combination ticket for Nippon Maru and the museum is a good value. Check the official website for the schedule of Sohanzenhangai (the public day when all sails are unfurled).

Best time to visit

Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes required. The white hull of the ship looks beautiful in afternoon light.
