A national park accessible through three gates—Shinjuku, Oogi, and Sendagaya—where a French formal garden, English landscape garden, and Japanese garden coexist within expansive grounds. In summer, the shade of large trees provides coolness, and visitors can spread out a sheet on the lawn plaza for leisurely rest. It's an ideal spot to build up energy in the greenery of central Tokyo before the fireworks festival. There are many points of interest, including a large greenhouse and a Japanese garden with a pond, and visitors can rest on benches at various locations if tired. Tips

Nearest station: Shinjuku Gyoen-mae Station (Marunouchi Line), 5 minutes walk, or Shinjuku Station South Exit, 10 minutes walk. Admission: ¥500 for adults, ¥250 for elementary and middle school students. Closed Mondays (following day if Monday is a holiday). Bringing food and beverages is allowed, so bringing lunch is recommended. Bring a hat and stay hydrated as summer sun is strong.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes required. The Japanese garden area, with plenty of shade, remains cool even in the afternoon.
