About this spot
This observation park spreads across the middle slopes of Mount Nariai on the north side of Amanohashidate. From here, the sandbar appears to rise straight to heaven like an ascending dragon, giving this view the name "ascending dragon view." This is also famous as the birthplace of the "viewing-between-the-legs" tradition. When you look through the viewing-between-the-legs platform at the observation deck upside down, Amanohashidate appears like a bridge spanning the heavens. From the base Fuchu Station, the cable car takes about 4 minutes to reach the summit, or the lift about 6 minutes, so grandparents can reach the spectacular views without strain. "Kawara-ke tossing," where small earthenware tiles are thrown to pass through a ring for wish-fulfillment, is a popular attraction that excites everyone from children to grandparents. With shops, light meal counters, and an observation deck jutting toward the sea, you can leisurely savor the view that pairs with the southern flying dragon view to conclude your day perfectly.
Tips
Access via cable car (about 4 minutes) or lift from the base Fuchu Station. Grandparents and stroller users should choose the cable car as you can sit while ascending. The mountaintop experiences sea winds with a lower felt temperature, so bring a light jacket. If returning to the Monju side via the tourist boat from Ichinomiya Pier, check the final boat time first and then enjoy at your leisure. Small earthenware tiles for kawara-ke tossing can be purchased at the shops on the mountain.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 1.5 hours. Late afternoon light tilts the sun, making the sea shimmer—perfect for concluding your spectacular views tour.
