A Bodhisattva Manjusri enshrined on the small Kousuyama hill on the north side of Kumihama Bay, revered locally as the Buddha of wisdom just like Chion-ji at Amanohashidate. The view from the temple grounds is exceptional, offering a panorama of Kumihama Bay, the sandbar "Shotenkyō" that separates the bay from the Japan Sea, and the horizon that stretches beyond. Viewing the full expanse of the bay where tonight's fireworks will be launched during the daytime makes the evening's viewing all the more enjoyable. After your prayers, spend a leisurely time in the shade of the trees on the temple grounds, feeling the bay breeze. The quiet air of this mountain temple gradually builds anticipation for the lively fireworks festival ahead.

2026年8月9日(日)19時30分から1時間、久美浜湾の水上から打ち上げられる約1,500発の海上花火大会です。久美浜湾は日本海と砂州に隔てられた静かな内湾のため、波が穏やかで水面が落ち着いており、打ち上がった花火がそのまま湾面に映り込む「逆さ花火」が楽しめるのが最大の特徴です。山あいに囲まれた湾内で炸裂音が響き渡り、都市部の花火とは異なる静謐な迫力があります。発数は多くありませんが、一発ごとの大輪がゆっくりと水面に広がる様子は見応え十分。夏の丹後の夜を締めくくる、忘れられない1時間です。

Tips

荒天時の開催可否は京丹後市の公式発表で確認してください。会場周辺は終了後に道路が混雑するため、花火終了後は少し浜辺で余韻を楽しんでから移動するのがおすすめです。足元が暗くなるため小さなライトを用意しておきましょう。帰りの車のルートと駐車場の出庫順も事前に確認を。

Tips

Located on the middle slope of Kousuyama hill on the north side of Kumihama Bay. Parking available. The ground has some stone steps, so wear comfortable walking shoes. The view of the bay from the temple grounds is very photogenic, so don't forget your camera or smartphone. It's about 20-25 minutes by car to the next roadside station.
