Fukuchiyama HANABI is a representative summer fireworks festival of northern Kyoto. The 6,000 fireworks launched from the Yura River riverbed spread across the night sky in a scale befitting a wide riverbed. The interplay of reflected fireworks on the water surface and large blooms overhead is a beauty unique to riverside fireworks festivals. The moment when successive starmine effects simultaneously illuminate both sky and water surface is the climax of the summer. The launch runs from 8 PM to 8:45 PM for 45 minutes—enjoy the flowers of light blooming in the Tanba sky alongside the cool summer night breeze.

Be sure to check the organizers' official announcement regarding whether the event proceeds in case of bad weather. Immediately after the finale, all attendees exit at once, making roads and the interior of Fukuchiyama Station extremely congested. After the finale, enjoy the lingering impressions from the riverbed for a while, then depart in stages for a more comfortable journey home. The ground will be dark on your way back, so having a smartphone light or small flashlight is reassuring.
