A lush green park centered on the ruins of Saga Castle (佐賀城跡), home to the north moat, the main venue for tonight's fireworks festival. The stone walls and moat retain the look of the era, and in early summer the green of the trees reflects beautifully on the moat's surface, making for a lovely walking path. After leaving the Honmaru History Museum, walk once around the north moat to check out the fireworks launch site and the mood of the viewing area during the day. Take a break on the wide lawn and picture your return visit tonight. The sight of festival preparations progressing in the quiet air unique to castle ruins is also a scene found only on the day of the fireworks.

Tips

Just steps from the Saga Castle Honmaru History Museum; you can stroll freely around the park (admission free). A viewing area is set up along the north moat from evening onward, so getting a sense of the entrances and walking routes during the day will make the evening go smoothly. Benches are located throughout, so you can walk at a leisurely pace, taking breaks along the way.

Best time to visit

Allow about 55 minutes; the fresh early-summer greenery is beautiful, and the cooler early afternoon is a pleasant time to stroll
