Botayama Wanpaku Park (ボタ山わんぱく公園), adjoining the Omachi Town Athletic Field (大町町民グラウンド), is tonight's fireworks venue. Botayama (ボタ山), a hill once built up from coal-mining waste rock, is a symbol of Omachi, and its dark silhouette rising at dusk has a presence all its own. As evening arrives, food stalls line up one after another, and the smell and buzz of festival classics like yakisoba, takoyaki, and shaved ice fill the venue. Choose your viewing spot and spread out your picnic sheet while it's still light, then settle in over stall food for dinner as you wait for the show at a relaxed pace. Tips

Parking around the venue fills up early on the day of the fireworks festival. By public transport, it's within walking distance of JR Omachi Station (JR大町駅). It's reassuring to use the restroom before it gets crowded. Stall food is usually cash only, so keep some small change on hand.
