Shiodata Port is a merchant port town that flourished during the Edo period through water transportation to the Ariake Sea and has been designated as a national preservation district for important traditional buildings. Merchant houses and storehouses with white walls and latticed windows remain in their original form, and simply walking through allows you to feel the depth of history. The main street is short and easy to walk, making it manageable even for families with small children. The spot where Shiodata River and the townscape overlap offers excellent photo opportunities—be sure to capture memories in the daytime light before the fireworks. Walking along the riverbank of Shiodata River where tonight's fireworks will light up the sky will help you get your bearings for the evening venue.

Tips

Approximately 10 minutes by car from Ureshino Hot Spring Town. Use the parking areas around Shiodata Port according to local signage. Entry is free and you can freely explore the townscape. Some buildings may have their interiors open to the public, so check the local signboards on site.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes required. In the afternoon light, the white walls shine brightly, making it an ideal time for photography.
