Savor Approximately 1,500 Fireworks from the Kawakami Gorge, Reflected on the River Surface

About this spot

The Kawakami Gorge Fireworks Festival launching at 8 PM on Saturday, September 12, 2026. Approximately 1,500 fireworks are launched from downstream of the Kanin Bridge over the Kase River in Yamato-cho, Saga City, with sound echoing across both banks of the gorge. Because of the relatively narrow river width in the gorge, the fireworks have an impressive quality as if descending from directly overhead, and the bands of light reflected on the river surface are a unique highlight of the Kawakami Gorge. Fireworks viewed beneath the crisp autumn night sky are vividly colored, offering a different charm from summer fireworks festivals. This festival, enjoyed up close from the Kase River's bank, is a cherished autumn tradition of Saga City.

Some areas along the return route are dark, so bring a light source.
