Approximately 4,000 fireworks illuminate the Yoshino River night sky—the summer climax of southern Nara

About this spot

The summer fireworks festival held August 15, 2026 (Saturday) from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM on the Yoshino River riverbank upstream of O-kawa Bridge in Gojo City. Approximately 4,000 fireworks burst across the wide Yoshino River, with sound reverberating through surrounding mountains—a powerful display you feel to your core. The light reflecting off the river surface is a special sight unique to riverbank viewing. An hour blending the quiet nostalgia of Obon, the evening of sending off summer, with the excitement of blooming fireworks creates a treasured memory of a southern Nara summer night. The grand finale's rapid-fire bursts painting river and sky is the climax of the evening.

Tips

In case of bad weather, check Gojo City's official announcement for event confirmation. After the event, surrounding roads and parking exits become very crowded. Enjoying the finale's lingering glow for a while before departing helps avoid peak congestion. The return path has limited lighting, so have a light handy.
