About a 10-minute walk west from Sendai Station, this is the largest shopping arcade in Sendai. During the Tanabata Festival period, large Tanabata decorations hang from the ceiling, creating a unique festival atmosphere. Sendai specialties such as gyutan (beef tongue), sasacamaboko (bamboo-leaf fish cake), and zunda sweets are available for street food sampling, and there's no shortage of souvenirs to choose from. On the fireworks festival day, crowds increase significantly from evening onward, so it's wise to take a leisurely stroll during the early afternoon hours. Feel Sendai's summer with your whole being and start your day off right.
Tips
From Sendai Station, take the Nanboku Line subway to Hirose-dori Station and get off, or walk about 10 minutes. If you purchase souvenirs at this time and deposit them in a coin locker at Sendai Station, you can move about freely until evening. On the fireworks festival day, surrounding roads may be subject to traffic restrictions, so it's best to rely on subway and walking as your primary transportation.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes required. In the early afternoon, there are fewer crowds than in the evening, allowing you to leisurely gaze up at the Tanabata decorations as you walk.
