From 7:00 PM to 8:10 PM on July 26, 2026 (Sunday), approximately 4,000 fireworks will be launched around Onagawa Harbor. Fireworks launched from this inlet harbor surrounded by mountains on three sides have a powerful impact as sound reverberates off the mountains and resonates through your body, and the beauty of light reflecting on the sea surface is unique to a harbor town's fireworks. Long cherished as a major summer event by local residents, this fireworks festival, following reconstruction from the Great East Japan Earthquake, is also a place where the community reaffirms its bonds. Seventy minutes gazing up at large chrysanthemum fireworks bursting one after another in the clear Sanriku night sky, feeling the scent of salt and harbor breeze with your family, is the climax of this full day.

Tips

Always confirm whether the event will be held in case of bad weather through official Onagawa Town or festival announcements. After the finale, Onagawa Station area and the return Isomaki Line will be very crowded. Consider waiting a while after the finale before moving, or check the train schedule for your return route via Isomaki Station in advance. Since some areas will be dark, having a smartphone light or small flashlight is reassuring.
