This is a park developed on the sandbar of the old Kitakami River where the Ishinomori Mannga-kan stands, offering an open and relaxing strolling spot surrounded by the river. The breeze blowing across the river surface is refreshing, and the view of the old Kitakami River's flow from the bridges presents a wide, leisurely, and summer-like landscape. Scattered throughout the park are character statues from the Mannga-kan, making it ideal to take a leisurely walk around the exterior right after visiting the museum. If you check the direction of the Kitakami River (downstream from Kaiboku Bridge) where tonight's fireworks will be launched from this location, you can visualize your viewing spot for the evening. Be sure to imprint Ishinomaki's river-town scenery into your memory during daylight.

石巻川開き祭りは毎年8月第1土曜日に開催される、石巻市最大の夏祭りです。北上川の開北橋下流から打ち上げられる約5,000発の花火は、広い川幅を存分に使った迫力ある構成で、川面に映る逆さ花火の美しさも石巻ならではの見どころ。川沿いの河川敷から打ち上げ場所を正面に眺めることができ、水と花火の光が生み出す幻想的な景色は毎年多くの観客を魅了します。川開き祭りの名前のとおり、北上川とともに生きてきた石巻のまちの夏を象徴する花火大会として、地域の人々に長く愛されてきた伝統の行事です。

Tips

花火会場となる河川敷には開演の1〜2時間前から場所取りが始まります。観覧場所は早めに確保してレジャーシートを敷き、ゆとりを持って開演を待ちましょう。荒天時の開催可否は石巻市または大会公式の発表で確認を。終了後は帰宅客が一斉に動くため、石巻駅方面への道は大変混み合います。フィナーレ後は河川敷でしばらく余韻を楽しんでから時間差で移動するのがおすすめです。

Tips

The park area surrounds the Ishinomori Mannga-kan. Since there are spots with little shade, be sure to bring a hat and stay hydrated during summer. Restrooms are available at the Mannga-kan or public restrooms within the park. The next destination, Ishinomaki city center, is within walking distance by crossing the bridge.
