About this spot

The finale of the Minamisanriku Shizugawa Bay Summer Festival Fireworks is the display launched from the special venue at the Shizugawa Temporary Fish Market, from 7:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026. The inlet terrain created by the rias coastline echoes the sound, and the calm sea surface within the bay reflects the fireworks, offering a fireworks experience unique to Sanriku. Minamisanriku's summer festival, part of the town's continuing journey of recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake, is also an important milestone event for local residents. The 45 minutes spent looking up at the great fireworks blooming in the sky with your family, in a night breeze carrying the scent of the tide, is the irreplaceable climax of this day.

Tips

Arrive at the venue around 7:15 p.m., 30 minutes before the start, to secure a spot. In case of severe weather, the event is scheduled to be postponed to the following day, Sunday, July 26, so check the official announcement for whether it will go ahead. Since the surrounding roads become congested afterward, those attending by car should plan their return home with traffic delays in mind. If using the BRT, it's reassuring to check the time of the last bus in advance.

Best time to visit
