About this spot

An observation deck on Mt. Shiratori (白鳥山) in the Ebino Highlands, set at a spot where the forest opens up to a clear view. Ebino City's own guides introduce it as a photo spot for Mt. Karakuni (韓国岳). It's part of the pond-touring course that takes in Lake Byakushi (白紫池), Lake Rokkannon (六観音御池), and Lake Fudo (不動池); the full loop around Mt. Shiratori takes about two hours. Volcanic gas can sometimes lead to restricted access on parts of the trail. Walking here while the morning cool still lingers makes for a pleasant start to the day.

Tips

About 10 minutes by car from central Ebino. Parking available. Admission is free, so it's easy to stop by. Summer sunlight is strong here, so don't forget a hat and something to drink. Some sections of the trail are unpaved, so wear comfortable walking shoes.

Best time to visit

Allow about 1 hour 15 minutes. Walking through the greenery in the cool hours before midday is especially pleasant.
