Flow of the course

About this spot

A scenic area representing Miyazaki City and designated as a national natural monument, the wave-like rock formations known as "Oni no Sentakuita" (Devil's Washboard) stretch across the coastline. The striped rock shelves, carved by waves over many years, are widely exposed during low tide, creating a view like another world entirely. The unique scenery contrasted with the blue Hyuganada Sea makes you truly feel you've come to Miyazaki. As the starting point of the full-day course, first head to the coast and breathe in the subtropical air deeply. A short walk along the sandy beach also offers views of Aoshima Island in its entirety.

Tips

About 5 minutes' walk from JR Aoshima Station. There are multiple parking areas around Aoshima Island. The surface of the wave-like rocks is slippery, so wear sturdy shoes with thick soles rather than sandals when descending to the rocky areas. Check the low tide times in advance to walk across the rock shelves more widely.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1 hour required. The light before and after noon beautifully illuminates the sea surface, making it an ideal time for photography.
