Panoramic views of the Kanmon Strait, Moji Port, and Kyushu's mountain ranges from the observation deck

About this spot

A park set up on Mt. Hinoyama (火の山), which stands at 268 meters elevation in the southeast of Shimonoseki city. From the observation deck at the summit, a 360-degree panorama unfolds showing the Kanmon Strait, Kanmon Bridge, Moji Port, Suo Nada, and the mountain ranges of Kyushu. From here you can also see Misonokicho Pier area, the location where tonight's fireworks will launch, giving you an excellent vantage point to understand the complete landscape of the strait during daylight. Taking the ropeway to the summit allows even children to easily enjoy the spectacular views. The summit area also has a grassy plaza and observation restaurant for lunch and rest. In summer, the breeze at the summit is cool and more comfortable than the city below.

2026年8月13日(木)19時35分から20時50分まで開催される関門海峡花火大会は、山口県下関市と福岡県北九州市の両岸から同時に打ち上がる約18,000発が最大の見どころです。幅わずか約700mの関門海峡を挟んで両岸から花火が競い合うように上がり、頭上を覆い尽くす光の量と、海峡両岸の山に反響して体に響く打上音は、日本でもここでしか体験できない迫力があります。海峡の広い水面に映る逆さ花火と、対岸の北九州側の花火が重なり合う瞬間は特に息をのむ美しさ。下関側の観覧エリアである岬之町埠頭・あるかぽーと・カモンワーフ・唐戸市場前はいずれも海峡に面した特等席で、海の香りと波音とともに1時間15分の花火を楽しめます。

Tips

荒天時の開催可否は大会公式の発表および下関市の情報を事前に確認してください。終了後は下関駅・唐戸エリアのバスが大混雑するため、フィナーレ後は少し時間をおいてから移動するのが得策です。周辺の交通規制情報も事前にチェックしておきましょう。足元が暗いので帰りはスマホのライトを活用して安全に。

Tips

About 15 minutes by bus from Shimonoseki Station to the base of the Mt. Hinoyama Ropeway (火の山ロープウェイ). Confirm ropeway operating hours and fees on the official website in advance. On the day of the fireworks festival, the observation deck becomes crowded from evening onward, so visiting during daytime is more comfortable. There are shops near the top station for light refreshment supplies. Be mindful of the final ropeway departure time when planning your movements.
