Next stop: About 10,000 fireworks color the night sky over the Nagara River - the climax of the dayAbout this spot
From the foot of Nagara Bridge along the riverbank, numerous food stalls line up on the day of the fireworks festival, filling the area with a festival-like energy. Ayu (sweetfish) from the Nagara River is the taste of a Gifu summer, and stalls and restaurants serving river fish dishes such as grilled salted ayu and ayu rice line the area. The evening river breeze is cooler than in the city, and from the bridge you get a quintessentially Gifu view looking upstream toward Mt. Kinka and Gifu Castle. Areas close to the fireworks launch site fill up with spectators from the evening onward, so it's smart to grab a spot early while having your meal.
Tips
It's about a 20-minute walk from the foot of the Kinkazan Ropeway to Nagara Bridge, or take a bus and get off at the Nagarabashi (長良橋) bus stop, right there. Traffic restrictions are in place on the day of the fireworks, so we strongly recommend checking the official traffic information in advance. Prepare some coins, as food stalls often only accept cash.
Best time to visit
About 2 hours 30 minutes. The evening river breeze is pleasant, and the Nagara River is especially beautiful around sunset.
