Next stop: Watch the fireworks from the banks of the Kitakami River — the climax of a Michinoku summer nightAbout this spot
This roughly 4-hectare park is arranged around Japan Museum of Modern Poetry and Literature (日本現代詩歌文学館), the nation's first literary museum devoted to poetry. The grounds are divided into four zones — spring, summer, autumn, and winter — where you can enjoy a pond, a stream, artificial hills, and seasonal plantings. At its center stands the Tower of Poetry (詩歌の塔), designed with a snow-crystal motif, offering visitors a place to relax. Within walking distance of the Kitakami River (北上川) fireworks venue, it's well suited for spending a leisurely stretch of time before evening. Its size is just right for an unhurried stroll with children.
Tips
The park is free to stroll through. Being close to the Kitakami River (北上川) venue, it's convenient for adjusting your schedule before the fireworks.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour 35 minutes. Be sure to enjoy the river's changing colors as dusk turns into evening.
