A pleasant waterfront promenade stretching from in front of Onomichi Station toward Sumiyoshi Shrine, where you can enjoy close-up views of the Onomichi Channel. The landscape—with Mukaishima Island across the water, ferry traffic coming and going, and scattered retro buildings—is a uniquely Onomichi scene found nowhere else. On the evening of the fireworks festival, food stalls line the waterfront, building pre-festival excitement. Have an early dinner from takeout food vendors and stalls, then move to the viewing area near Sumiyoshi Shrine and secure a spot with a leisure sheet. Good locations fill up quickly after dusk, so it's essential to take action during this evening window.

おのみち住吉花火まつりは、住吉神社の祭礼に合わせて尾道水道の海上から打ち上げられる夏の大会で、約13,000発の花火が1時間にわたって夜空を彩ります。幅の狭い尾道水道から見上げる花火は臨場感が抜群で、打ち上げ音が港町の建物に反響して体に響く迫力も格別です。穏やかな内海の水面に映える逆さ花火は、瀬戸内の花火大会ならではの美しさ。対岸の向島をバックに次々と開く大輪は、昼間ロープウェイから眺めた同じ海とは思えない別世界の光景です。住吉神社の祭りのにぎわいとともに、夏の尾道の夜を満喫しましょう。
Tips
荒天時の開催可否は大会公式発表で確認を。終了後は会場周辺と尾道駅へ向かう道が大変混み合います。フィナーレ後はその場で少し余韻を楽しんでから動き出す時間差帰宅がおすすめです。JR尾道駅のほか、会場から徒歩圏内の複数の出口を事前に確認しておくと混雑時に役立ちます。足元が暗いのでスマホのライトで安全に移動を。

Descend from Senkoiji, pass through Onomichi Hondon Shopping Street, and head to the waterfront road. The shrine venue is within walking distance. On the evening of the fireworks festival, besides food stalls, convenience stores in the surrounding area sell out quickly, so secure drinks and light snacks early. Finish using public restrooms near the venue early for peace of mind.
Best time to visit
Approximately 2 hours 30 minutes required. The Onomichi Channel bathed in sunset glow is the most beautiful sight of the day.
