Enshrined in Motomachi, Fuchu City, Ono Shrine (小野神社) is an ancient shrine that has long drawn local devotion as the guardian shrine of Bingo Province. Its founding is said to date back to ancient times, and the grounds have a quiet approach lined with age-old trees and stone lanterns. To get a firsthand feel for the history of Fuchu, the setting of the Bingo Kokufu Festival, this is a fitting place to start. A leisurely walk through the lush, green grounds in the bright hours of the day naturally builds anticipation for tonight's festival. The grounds aren't too large — just the right size for even small children to explore comfortably.

Tips

Within walking distance of Fuchu Station, this shrine is easy to reach. Visiting is free. The stone paving in the grounds can be slippery after rain, so wear comfortable walking shoes. For parking, using one of the surrounding city-run lots is your safest bet.
