The Amakusa Hondo Fireworks Festival (天草ほんど花火大会) is Amakusa City's signature summer fireworks display, held around Hondo Port (本渡港一帯). In 2026, the fireworks are launched from 8:20pm to 8:40pm on Saturday, July 25. The fireworks that bloom over the water surrounding the harbor, combined with their reflection on the sea, create a fantastical scene. Against the night horizon lined with Amakusa's islands, the roughly 20 minutes in which colorful fireworks color the sky one after another form the climax of this one-day trip. The booming launch sounds carried on the sea breeze, the rings of light spreading across the water's surface, look up together as a family at a special sight found only in an Amakusa summer.

Roads and parking lots around Hondo Port get crowded afterward, so it's a good idea to linger and enjoy the afterglow at the harbor for a while before heading home once the fireworks end.
