全国花火競技大会「大曲の花火」は、1894年(明治27年)から続く日本最高峰の花火競技大会で、日本三大花火大会のひとつに数えられます。全国から選ばれた一流の煙火師たちが昼の部・夜の部の2部門で技と美を競い、約18,000発が大曲の夜空を彩ります。単なる打ち上げ花火の見せ合いではなく、煙火師ごとに独自のテーマと構成で展開される競技花火は、一発一発に作家の意志が込められた芸術作品です。雄物川の川幅を贅沢に使ったワイドスターやスターマインが川面に光の帯を描くフィナーレは、日本の花火文化の頂点とも言える光景。17時10分から21時30分まで4時間以上にわたって繰り広げられる大会を、東北の夜風の中でたっぷり堪能してください。

Tips

有料観覧席は公式サイトから事前購入が必要で、例年早期完売します。無料観覧エリアは堤防の一般席となりますが早めの場所取りが必要です。終了後はJR大曲駅や臨時バスへの帰路が大混雑するため、フィナーレ後は現地でしばらく余韻を楽しんでから動き出す時間差帰宅がおすすめ。荒天時の開催可否は大会公式の発表を確認してください。

Tips

About 15-20 minutes walk from Ōmagaté Station, or accessible by bicycle or bus. The levee grass provides good footing; identify an ideal spot to spread your leisure mat during the daytime. The sun is strong, so don't forget sunscreen and a hat. Prepare beverages before departing.
