Famous Flower Spot with Stone Walls and Itajiki Tower of Kushima Castle Ruins, Overlooking Omura Bay

About this spot

Developed on the ruins of Kushima Castle, the former castle of the Omura clan, this park is one of Nagasaki Prefecture's leading flower spots and has been selected as one of Japan's 100 Famous Cherry Blossom Spots. In spring, rare double-layer cherry blossoms called Omura Cherry (designated as a National Natural Monument) bloom magnificently in layers, while in early summer, irises color the moat. Built on a plateau jutting into Omura Bay, the castle ruins truly show their character—walking around the Itajiki Tower rebuilt atop the stone walls, you'll see a calm sea beyond the trees. The Omura Shrine sits on the site of the original castle keep, making this park perfect for a morning stroll where you can enjoy flowers, stone walls, and sea all at once.

Tips

The grounds have stone steps and gravel paths, so wear comfortable walking shoes. During peak bloom seasons for cherry blossoms and irises, the parking lot can get crowded, so arriving early in the morning is recommended. If you climb up to the Omura Shrine at the castle keep ruins, you can enjoy a different perspective of the stone walls and sea.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. In the crisp morning air, you can enjoy clear views of Omura Bay.
