About this spot
The head shrine of approximately 25,000 Suwa shrines nationwide, known as one of Japan's oldest shrines. Kamisha Honmiya features a series of shrine buildings including the worship hall, treasury hall, four-legged gate, and kagura hall—many designated as Important Cultural Properties—nestled along the base of the mountain. The unique form of worship found throughout this ancient shrine, famous nationwide for the "Onbashira Festival" (御柱祭) held every seven years, differs from other shrines. The scale of the grounds and historical weight are well worth seeing. Walk slowly through the approach in the quiet afternoon, and feel an atmosphere befitting the start of your full day. The spring water "Myojin-yu" (明神湯) within the grounds is also a notable sight.

諏訪湖祭湖上花火大会は、毎年8月15日に開催される諏訪の夏の最大の祭典です。諏訪湖の湖上から打ち上げられる花火は、四方を山に囲まれた盆地の地形によって音が反響し、体の芯まで響く大迫力。静かな湖面に映る「逆さ花火」の美しさも、湖上花火大会ならではの見せ場です。夜空を彩る花火と山々のシルエット、そして湖面に広がる光の競演は、信州の夏を締めくくるにふさわしいスケールの光景。フィナーレに向けて次々と打ち上がる連発の迫力は圧巻で、この夏いちばんの思い出になるはずです。
Tips
荒天時の開催可否は大会公式発表で事前に確認を。終了後はJR上諏訪駅および周辺道路が非常に混雑します。フィナーレ後はすぐに動かず、湖畔で余韻を楽しんでから時間差で帰宅するのがおすすめです。足元が暗い場所もあるため、小さなライトを持っておくと安心です。
Tips
Approximately 10 minutes by bus from JR Kami-Suwa Station (JR上諏訪駅), or about 25 minutes on foot. Admission to worship is free. The grounds are spacious, so wear comfortable walking shoes. If you wish to receive an ema stamp, allow extra time for potential crowds. Using a taxi from Kami-Suwa Station will be more convenient.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes required. In the afternoon, sunlight filters through the approach, making the shrine buildings appear in vivid colors.
